Did you know that long-term exposure to ultraviolet (UV) light is responsible for up to 90% of the early signs of aging that appear on your most frequently exposed areas of skin?
That’s right: Premature skin aging caused by cumulative sun damage (photoaging) is the main reason that the unprotected skin on your face, neck, and upper chest isn’t as uniform, smooth, or tight as the areas of skin that you usually keep covered.
As an anti-aging expert who specializes in advanced skin care solutions, Danny Harrison, MD, FACS, is pleased to offer Ultherapy®, a noninvasive treatment that effectively tightens and revitalizes your skin, and helps take years off your appearance.
Let’s explore how this FDA-cleared treatment works and what you can expect before, during, and after your Ultherapy session.
How does Ultherapy work?
Ultherapy is an innovative skin rejuvenation treatment that uses safe, noninvasive ultrasound energy to tighten and lift saggy skin, and diminish visible signs of aging on your face, neck, and upper chest.
Using a specialized device that emits micro-focused ultrasound waves, Ultherapy generates a targeted thermal effect through every dermal layer. As your skin tissue heats up, the micro-injury causes your body to drastically increase its production of collagen.
Collagen is the protein that gives your skin its structure, strength, and resilience. Collagen loss — due to decline of natural production, the degrading effects of photoaging, or both — is a major cause of wrinkled, saggy skin.
By stimulating the collagen renewal process in a direct and highly efficient way, Ultherapy can successfully lift, tighten, and smooth your skin right where you need it most, whether it’s your brow, face, neck, upper chest, or all of the above.
What is the Ultherapy process like?
Ultherapy is completely noninvasive, meaning it rejuvenates your skin without cosmetic injections, surgical incisions, or post-treatment downtime. Here’s what you can expect:
Before the procedure
Dr. Harrison evaluates your skin and discusses your cosmetic goals to determine if you’re a good candidate for Ultherapy. If you are, you can simply schedule your session — Ultherapy doesn’t require advance preparation or special pre-treatment skin care.
During your session
Your Ultherapy session begins with skin cleansing and the application of topical ultrasound gel. Besides helping the device glide smoothly across your skin, the gel also helps produce a clearer picture of your dermal tissues on the imaging screen.
As Dr. Harrison passes the device across your skin, he visualizes the structures and layers of your dermal tissues on the Ultherapy imaging screen. Detailed, real-time visualization allows him to target the treatment area with greater precision — he can direct skin-renewing energy exactly where it will provide maximal lift, tightening, and smoothing.
When the applicator moves across your skin, you feel tiny pulses of energy penetrating your tissues. You will also experience mild tingling and/or heating sensations as it penetrates into your deeper skin structures. Although comfort levels vary from one person to the next, we have comfort measures available if needed.
It takes about an hour, on average, to lift and revitalize the skin on your neck and upper chest. Your Ultherapy session may be longer or shorter, depending on your skin needs and cosmetic goals.
After your treatment
You can resume your normal routine without restriction or scheduled downtime! You don’t need to make time for post-treatment recovery following your Ultherapy session. So summer is an ideal time for Ultheraypy.
Any flushing or mild swelling you experience should disappear within a few hours, just as your body’s collagen regenerating actions are shifting into high gear. As the process continues to build on itself in the days, weeks, and months after your session, your skin will look better and better.
Most people see tighter, smoother skin with visible lift within three months; it can take up to six months to see complete results.
How long will my results last?
Ultherapy can give you youthful-looking skin that lasts a year or longer, depending on your body’s unique collagen remodeling response and continued rate of aging. Many people find that an annual “touch-up” treatment is all it takes to maintain their results as time goes on.
