Spider veins — also called telangiectasias — are small, weblike clusters of visible capillaries that may appear around your nose, on your face and on your legs, particularly as you get older.

At Sky Vein and Aesthetics, Dr. Danny Harrison, a board-certified general surgeon, will evaluate, diagnose, and treat your visible vein problems, often with sclerotherapy. Here’s why that treatment is one of the most popular and effective ways to resolve and remove spider veins.

Spider veins are dilated capillaries.

Most often, spider veins appear on areas of your skin that are exposed to the sun, which suggests that damage from ultraviolet rays may increase your risk for spider veins. For unknown reasons, spider veins tend to run in families.  You’re also more likely to develop spider veins if you smoke or drink a lot of alcohol, both of which can damage your blood vessels. People who stand a lot or are overweight are at increased risk for spider veins on their legs, as are pregnant women because of the extra weight they’re carrying.

Even though they’re damaged blood vessels, most spider veins don’t carry any kind of health risk. While harmless, broken blood vessels can become a nuisance if they make you self-conscious.

Sclerotherapy removes those unwanted spider veins

Sclerotherapy has been the gold standard treatment for removing  spider veins since the 1930s. To collapse the unwanted vein, your doctor injects it with an FDA approved medication..  You may feel a little pinch or stinging when he administers your treatment.

The medication irritates the walls of the dysfunctional blood vessels so that they collapse. Over time, the spider veins wither away until your body reabsorbs them.

Sclerotherapy is easy for you to do.

Sclerotherapy is a fast procedure that doesn’t require anesthesia or downtime. Depending on how many spider veins you have, treatment could take anywhere from 30 minutes to one hour.

You’ll notice that you have fewer spider veins 6 to 8 weeks after your sclerotherapy treatment. Usually multiple sessions are required to completely clear your spider veins.

VeinGogh “zaps” Facial Spider Veins

You don’t have to have injections in your face to treat those spider veins around your nose.  VeinGogh is the easy way to reliably treat cosmetically unacceptable conditions of telangiectasia and spider veins. Unlike IPL and most Lasers, VeinGogh can safely treat any skin type, including tanned skin.  Only VeinGogh incorporates Microburst Technology, a powerful and revolutionary frequency regulator to deliver consistent power.  The precise nature of the VeinGogh treatment limits the risk of over-treating, so there is little to no trauma to the skin. Following treatment, there will be some mild redness that is transient. Men and women treated with VeinGogh can resume their normal activities immediately after their procedure.  You should avoid sun exposure that day.  The following day you can apply sunscreen and makeup.
